HOW CAN OUR TRAIN LINES STILL BE SO RUBBISH

We are one of the richest nations in the world with one of the worst transport systems of any developed country in the West. I have been to New York, Paris, Amsterdam and a number of other cities in Europe and North America and they all seem to have more reliable transport then we do, and I am particularly singling out the London Overground.

For anyone that is lucky enough not to have to use the abysmal London Overground, the chances are that you will not have a clue what I am talking about when I say that relying on the London Overground is like having to rely on a drunk 10 year old to drive you home after a night out, it’s just pointless!

Many of the London escorts use the London Overground to get around London, some of them use it to get to the London escort HQ as do I on certain days so you can imagine the cursing that was going on this morning when we all eventually arrived.

What I don’t understand about the London Overground, and all trains in London for that matter is the old favourite ‘signal failures’. What exactly does that mean? I have been getting trains in and around London for well over 15 years or more and despite all the technology advances and all of the experience that the train companies have had with things going wrong they still tell us that trains are cancelled and lines are closed because of signal failures, I just don’t understand how this can be such a consistent problem.

If I had a pound for every time someone has walked into the London escort HQ complaining about signal failures on trains I would be a rich man. It also confuses me that engineering works need doing to the lines so often, everyday that I get the London overground to the London escort HQ I see groups of guys hanging around each station in their orange overalls looking as though they are meant to be doing some sort of work but they never actually are.

So what engineering works are constantly in need of doing? I haven’t really seen any vast improvements on the line in the last few years apart from the slightly better trains. So be warned guys, if you are planning on hiring an escort in London this week and you are meeting her or she is meeting you via the London Overground expect some serious delays and the comforting sound of “we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause”, so you should be!

Apparently the service is going to be vastly improved by the time the Olympics comes around in 2012, I imagine that will be just to please all the tourists and it will go back to being rubbish when us Londoners need to use it again.
